Frequently asked questions

How does Loam figure out if trails are rideable?
Loam combines recent precipitation and current weather with local soil, terrain, tree cover, and drying behavior. The result is a rideability estimate: Prime means rideable now, Dusty means rideable but very dry (expect dust and loose corners), Caution means use judgment, Stay Off means there is an active damage risk, and Frozen means snow-covered or frozen ground.
Where does Loam's data come from?
Public environmental data: weather and precipitation, soil survey data, tree canopy, elevation and slope, plus official closures from land managers that publish them. Every provider, what each one contributes, and the license it is used under are listed on our data sources page. Loam is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
Why doesn't my local trail system appear?
We currently cover close to 1,500 trail networks across the US and Canada, but we're always expanding. Use the Request feature in the app (Explore tab → "Request a network") to let us know what's missing. We review requests and add missing areas regularly.
The conditions seem wrong: trails were dry but Loam said Stay Off.
Conditions are modeled estimates, so hyperlocal rainfall, trail work, closures, and surface differences can still vary from what Loam sees. Tree cover, terrain, soil, and drainage are included, but no model replaces checking the trail and official closure notices. Use the feedback controls in the app to report what you found.
How do alerts work?
Go to a trail network's detail screen and tap the bell icon. Loam will send you a push notification when conditions at that network change to Prime. You can manage your watched networks in the Alerts tab. Uninstalling the app cancels all alerts.
What does Loam Pro include?
Loam Pro lets you watch unlimited networks and adds condition flip alerts, a window-closing rain alert, and a Saturday morning digest. It's available as a monthly or annual subscription, managed through your Apple ID. You can cancel anytime from Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
How do I cancel my Pro subscription?
On iPhone: open the Settings app → tap your name → Subscriptions → Loam → Cancel Subscription. Alternatively: App Store → your profile icon → Subscriptions.

On Android: open the Google Play Store → tap your profile icon → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → Loam → Cancel subscription.

Either way your access continues until the end of the billing period, and refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.
How do I delete my data?
Loam has no accounts, so there is very little tied to you and most of it you can remove yourself.

Watched trails and alerts: open the Alerts tab and remove any network you are watching. Removing all of them, or uninstalling the app, stops every future notification. Your push token is deleted from our backend as soon as it is next found to be inactive.

Conditions feedback: reports you send are kept for up to 90 days. What remains after that is a non-personal calibration record with no note text and no identifiers.

Analytics and diagnostics: these use a random app-generated identifier rather than your identity, so there is nothing to look you up by.

If you would like us to delete anything associated with your device, email support@loamrideconditions.com and we will take care of it. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
What data does Loam collect?
Precise location used to find nearby trails stays on your device. If you enable alerts, Loam stores a push token and watched networks. The app also uses pseudonymous product analytics (including Explore search text), diagnostics, and subscription status. No account is required, and this data is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking. See our full Privacy Policy.
