This is the privacy policy for the Loam Ride Conditions app and loamrideconditions.com. It explains what information Loam collects or receives, why we use it, which service providers help us operate Loam, how long information is kept, and the controls available to you.
What we collect
- Location (approximate GPS): if you grant location permission, Loam uses your device location to find nearby trail networks and sort them by distance. Precise GPS location is used for the current app experience and is not stored by Loam as location history. Map imagery requests can include the coordinates of the area you are viewing.
- Device push token: if you enable condition alerts, Loam stores your device push token and the trail networks you choose to watch so the requested notifications can be delivered. No Loam account, name, or email address is associated with the token.
- Product usage and search history: the app records feature interactions and Explore search text through PostHog so we can improve Loam and identify missing trail coverage. Events can include screens, app and build information, a random app-generated identifier, and approximate location derived by the provider from an IP address, but not precise GPS or your identity. Loam does not intentionally send push tokens, names, email addresses, or feedback-note text to product analytics.
- Conditions feedback: if you tell Loam whether a trail network was drier, about right, or wetter than estimated, we store the network, the day ridden, your answer, model inputs associated with the estimate, and any optional note you submit. Website reports use a random browser identifier and a temporary IP-based limit to prevent duplicate or abusive submissions; the browser identifier and IP address are not stored with the report.
- Diagnostics: Sentry receives crash and performance information, app and device details, and sanitized product-event breadcrumbs so we can diagnose failures. Sentry may derive approximate location from an IP address.
- Subscription status: Apple, Google, and RevenueCat process purchases. Loam receives product, purchase, and entitlement information tied to a pseudonymous customer identifier, but not your payment-card details.
- Advertising attribution: on iOS, Loam may use Apple's AdServices attribution system to learn whether an install or conversion resulted from an Apple Ads campaign. Apple can return campaign, ad group, keyword, ad, country/region, and related attribution fields. Loam records this attribution in its product analytics to measure campaign performance. This uses Apple's first-party attribution mechanism and Loam does not use the IDFA for this purpose.
What we do not collect
Loam does not require an account. We do not ask for your name, email address, or phone number to use the app, and Loam does not receive your payment-card information. We do not build a history of your precise GPS locations or sell personal information.
Website analytics
The Loam website uses Google Analytics, PostHog, and Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand traffic, campaigns, page performance, and use of important site features. Depending on the service, this can include an anonymous browser identifier, approximate location derived from IP address, device/browser information, referring page, campaign tags, pages viewed, and selected product actions. Loam does not intentionally send names, email addresses, trail searches, form text, or precise location to website analytics.
Advertising storage and personalization are disabled. PostHog website autocapture and session recording are disabled. Loam respects Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals by not loading optional analytics for browsers sending those signals. You can also change analytics for this browser below.
Service providers and sharing
We do not sell personal information and do not show third-party ads. We disclose information to service providers only as needed to operate, secure, measure, and improve Loam, process purchases, provide maps and trail/weather data, or comply with law. We require providers that process information for us to handle it consistently with their contractual obligations and applicable privacy and security requirements.
- PostHog: product and website analytics. Website autocapture and session recording are disabled. Privacy Policy
- Sentry: crash and performance diagnostics. Privacy Policy
- RevenueCat: purchase and entitlement management and, on iOS, Apple Ads attribution support. Privacy Policy
- Apple: App Store purchases, push notifications, and Apple Ads attribution.
- Google: Google Play billing and website analytics. Advertising features are disabled. Privacy Policy
- Cloudflare: backend infrastructure, notification delivery support, bot protection (Turnstile, shown only when feedback volume looks unusual), and cookieless web analytics. Privacy Policy
- Mapbox: satellite map imagery; tile requests include map coordinates but no Loam account identifier. Privacy Policy
- Open-Meteo, USDA Web Soil Survey, and OpenStreetMap: weather, soil, and trail/network source data. Loam does not intentionally send personal identifiers to these data sources. Open-Meteo Terms
Notifications
If you enable alerts, your push token and watched-network preferences are stored on our backend and used only to provide the alerts you requested. You can remove watched networks or disable notification permission at any time. Uninstalling Loam prevents the app from receiving notifications; stale server-side push registrations may remain until they are removed through normal token cleanup or delivery-failure handling.
Data retention
Alert registrations are kept while needed to provide alerts and until removed through the app or normal stale-token cleanup. A conditions feedback report, including any note, is retained for up to 90 days. Loam may retain a non-personal calibration record from a report (network, day ridden, drier/about-right/wetter answer, and model inputs, without note text or an identifier) for as long as useful to improve condition estimates. Temporary website-feedback rate-limit records expire within 24 hours. Precise GPS location is not retained by Loam as location history.
Analytics and diagnostic providers may retain information according to their configured retention periods and their privacy policies. Purchase providers may retain transaction records as required for refunds, fraud prevention, accounting, tax, and other legal obligations.
Your choices and rights
You can deny or revoke location and notification permissions in your device settings, remove watched networks in Loam, and control optional website analytics above. Because Loam has no user accounts and intentionally avoids attaching most information to your identity, some anonymous or pseudonymous records cannot reasonably be located by name or email. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or other privacy choices for personal information we can identify. Send requests to hello@loamrideconditions.com.
Security and international processing
Loam uses encrypted connections and reputable infrastructure providers. Information may be processed in countries other than where you live; where required, we and our providers use appropriate safeguards for international transfers. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure.
Children
Loam is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy as Loam changes. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and provide additional notice where appropriate.
